What to Expect During Your First Telehealth Visit

If you've never had a telehealth visit before, it's completely normal to feel unsure about what to expect. The good news? It's simpler than you think, and most patients say they prefer it to in-person visits after trying it once.
Before Your Visit
Step 1: Schedule Online Book your appointment through our online scheduling system. Choose the visit type that matches your needs (sick visit, chronic care, weight loss, etc.).
Step 2: Complete Your Intake You'll receive a link to fill out your medical history, current medications, allergies, and the reason for your visit. Completing this ahead of time ensures your provider can focus on your care during the appointment.
Step 3: Prepare Your Space Find a quiet, well-lit area with good internet connection. Have your phone or computer charged and ready. If you have any home health devices (blood pressure cuff, thermometer, glucose monitor), have them nearby.
During Your Visit
Connecting: At your appointment time, you'll receive a secure video link. Click it to join — no app download required in most cases.
The Consultation: Your provider will: - Review your intake information - Ask about your symptoms and concerns - Conduct a visual assessment when applicable - Discuss diagnosis and treatment options - Answer all your questions
Duration: Most visits take 15-20 minutes, though your provider will take as much time as needed.
After Your Visit
Prescriptions: If medications are needed, they'll be sent electronically to your preferred pharmacy.
Lab Orders: If labs are needed, you'll receive orders you can take to a nearby lab location.
Follow-Up: Your provider will let you know if and when you should schedule a follow-up visit.
Visit Summary: You'll receive a summary of your visit including your diagnosis, treatment plan, and any instructions.
Tips for a Great Telehealth Experience
1. Test your tech — Make sure your camera and microphone work before the appointment 2. Write down your questions — It's easy to forget things in the moment 3. Be honest — Your provider needs accurate information to help you 4. Have your medications handy — So you can reference names and doses 5. Dress comfortably — But be prepared to show any visible symptoms if needed
